Hong Kong is located in the south-eastern corner of China; it has been a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China since 1997. Hong Kong is an international finance center. This is important for trading, shipping and tourism. Hong Kong has a population of 7.155 million (as of 2012) and the surface area is 1,104 km squared. This makes Hong Kong one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with a population density of 6782.9 per km squared. Even though it is a very densely populated there are a lot of green parts around the city and Hong Kong has beautiful islands.

Moving on to the economic side of Hong Kong, it has a GDP of USD381.1 billion (as of 2013) and a GDP per capita of USD52,700 (as of 2013). The GDP composition of Hong Kong is 0.1% agriculture, 6.9% industry and 93% services (as of 2013). The contribution of tourism to Hong Kong GDP is 4%. The workforce of Hong Kong is 3.873 million (as of 2013). About 240,000 people are employed in tourism.
The climate of Hong Kong is sub-tropical, it is quite hot and humid from March to October; the other half of the year the climate is temperate and quite pleasant. During November and December there is a lot of breeze and the temperature can go down to 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature ever recorded was 0 degrees Celsius.


There are many ways to enter Hong Kong. You can arrive there by car or bus, by train and by airplane. There are fast ferry connections with Macao and with Mainland cities in Guangdong province.
Hong Kong has excellent public transport system. The bus network is extensive and includes large double-decker busses and mini-busses. Hong Hong's metro, called the MTR (Mass Transport Railway) is one of the most efficient in the world. A traditional tram line connects the east part of Hong Kong island with the west part; it is popular with the residents as well as with tourists. The world-famous Star Ferry connects Hong Kong island with the Kowloon side; it carries around 70,000 per day, or 26 million per year, including many tourists. Hong Kong also has a system of ferries that connects Hong Kong Island and Kowloon with the outer islands, which are popular among the tourists.
