Sustainable Tourism in Repulse Bay, Hong Kong

About my Website
In this website I will be evaluating solutions to the problem of mass tourism in Repulse Bay area located in the southern district, of Hong Kong Island. I will put my study in the context of the very rapid development of tourism in Hong Kong in general. My study looks at how mass tourism impacts the local environment and the local infrastructure. The reason why I chose Repulse Bay area for my study is that I live there. Every day when I look out of my window, I see many tourists on the beach, especially on the weekends and in holiday periods. Nobody has the exact data on the number of tourists, but everybody agrees the number has been going up steadily. And everybody expects it will continue to grow.
This topic matters to me and to all local people, as it impacts the environment and ecosystem as well as the quality of life and work in Repulse Bay. The topic matters also to the people who earn their living in the tourism industry; they are interested in continuing growth of their sector. The big challenge for the government is to make sure that tourism development and economic growth do not harm the quality of life of local residents.
Why Does this Topic Matter?
Those of you who visit Repulse Bay and those of you who work in the tourism sector, get involved and join the debate! After reading this website and share it with others and give your opinions in the survey at the top of the page. Your are also invited to give your opinion on the recomendations.
Best regards, Filip Piket.

Project
In my case study I will be looking at transport problems, traffic congestion and littering. I will make a number of recommendations for measures to solve some of the issues. My recomendations are addressed to the government and the tourism industry operators, but also to community organizations, including schools.
